Abstract |
BioCoMBE is an RTD project, funded under the "Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development" Specific Programme. The consequences of changes in biodiversity, natural or anthropogenic,
for the functioning of coastal ecosystems, are still unknown.
To address this issue, two phenomena will be unravelled with regard to the (changes of) benthic biodiversity, along the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Baltic coast. These two phenomena are:
1.The north-eastward shift in distribution of benthic species along the European coast
2. The Baltic has on average a low diversity of life. Despite low diversity, structure and productivity of the food web in the Baltic is similar to the Atlantic |
