Soil legacy effects in fen meadows
Availability: Restricted The data are withheld from general circulation and disclosure but access may be obtained on a case-by-case basis through negotiation
Description
This dataset contains information on a two-phase greenhouse experiment, in which the growth respons of three Carex species was assessed to soil from fen meadows of different quality and history, that had been conditioned by plant species characteristic of original or of disturbed fen meadows. more
Soil was sampled from five replicate fields of four field types (original fen meadows with characteristic vegetation (O+), original meadows that had been disturbed and from where the characteristic vegetation had disappeared (O-), successfully restored fen meadows where the characteristic vegetation had returned (R+) and unsuccessfully restored fen meadows that lacked characteristic vegetation (R-). The soil was analyzed for abiotic characteristics and nematodes. In the greenhouse, the soil was conditioned with plant species characteristic for original or for disturbed fen meadows. After harvest, the soil was analyzed for some abiotic characteristics, nematodes and ergosterol. The soil was planted with three different Carex species in a mixture of the same species, of original fen meadow plants or a mixture of disturbance plants.
